Couragion Supports First Generation College Students

Ready, Set, College is a one-day celebration of first-generation college students hosted by the Impact Denver Class of 2016. The program supports first generation college bound students and helps offset costs not commonly covered by scholarships. This year the event exposed students to tools and resources that prepare them for college life – and each student received a laptop and mobile hotspot!

One member of the Impact Denver team was Chelsea Magin, Director of Product Development for Sharklet Technologies and one of Couragion’s amazing role models. Chelsea is a biomedical engineer who works at a start-up whose product development was inspired by analyzing the texture of shark skin. The innovation she applies to their new product introductions reduces the growth of bacteria to prevent infection and speed up recovery times for patients using their biomedical devices. You can see one of the students in the picture above checking out Chelsea’s Quest in the Couragion app!

When Chelsea asked us to get involved, we leapt at the opportunity. Couragion hosted an elective session called “Discover Your STEM Major” – and all the students who attended received a free Couragion license complements of the Ready, Set, College program sponsors. I enjoyed supporting the event and coaching the students about career exploration and readiness. One incoming freshman sent me this message after our session wrapped up, “This app is awesome. I definitely will be using it often.”
